Hamzah Ibn-Amr al-Aslamī asked the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, about fasting while traveling; as he often used to fast for days in succession (1). The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, replied,"You may choose to fast, and you may choose not to." Footnotes: (1) This refers to voluntary fasting, which he did frequently. Abū-Sa'īd al-Khudrī said, "We used to travel with the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, while some among us were fasting and some were not. Those who were not fasting would not be angry at those who were; nor would those who were fasting be angry at those who were not. They used to regard whoever had the strength to fast and did so, as having done well; and likewise used to regard whoever felt weak and did not fast, as having done well." Click on ḥadīth to read more
